Nightmare the Rat was a comic strip that ran in the free Washington DC-based newspaper Magic Bullet from 2010-2020. The character originated as a random doodle in a sketchbook, drawn while watching the classic Christmas-themed horror musical, Babes in Toyland. (Known in some markets as March of the Wooden Soldiers.)
I never planned to draw more than one comic featuring this terrifying, teeth-stealing demon, but writing and drawing his adventures scratched an artistic itch I didn’t even know I had. That said, as fun as the strip was to draw it was also a huge technical challenge and I’m glad to have brought his adventures to a satisfying conclusion in the plague year of 2020. A few samples are below, but the entire Nightmare the Rat collection is available as two tabloid newspaper-sized comics in the Plastic Farm Press store.
